Prof.dr.ir. René de Borst

Dean, faculty of Mechanical Engineering TU/e

René de Borst is dean at the faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology.
He is the author of about 200 papers and received several awards, including the Composite Structures Award, the IACM Computational Mechanics Award, the Max-Planck Forshungspreis and the NWO-Spinozaprijs 1999.


Dr. Kees le Pair

Founder and former director of STW

Dr. Kees le Pair is the founder and former director of the technology foundation STW (www.stw.nl). He is the author of about 150 papers and received several awards, including bearer of 'De Zilveren Penning' by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), 'Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw' by Queen Beatrix, Eredoctor by the TUD and Ehremitglied of the Wischenschafts Forscher.


Prof. Stuart Smith

Professor at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte

Dr. Stuart Smith is a Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the Center for Precision Metrology at UNC Charlotte and is cofounder of Albany Instruments Inc., NC 2000 and InsituTec Inc. 2002 both of North Carolina. In 1991 he was awarded an engineering secondment by the Royal Academy of Engineering. He is the author of 13 patents, over 70 journal publications, 60 conference proceedings and two books.


Dr.ir. J. van Helvoirt

Founder and director of IME Technologies

Jan van Helvoirt studied Mechanical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology and in 2007 he obtained his PhD degree. He conducted research for Philips Optical Storage, TNO Science & Industry and Siemens Power Generations. He is the initiator and future CEO of IME Technologies, a new research and development company that will be founded in 2008 as a full subsidiary of the TU/e Holding.


Dr.ir. Roell van Druten

Founder and director of Drive Train Innovations

Roell van Druten finished his Masters degree at the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven in June 1996, within the section Precision Engineering. In he received the NOVEM most promising idea award and the Manuel Junoy Prize for his paper called "Design and Construction aspects of the Zero Inertia Powertrain". He is the founder and director of Drive Train Innovations (DTI), a high-tech university startup.


Ir. Bart van Coppenolle

Founder and director of Metris International

He co-founded Metris and heads the company since its inception and was Chairman of the board of directors until 21 November 2006. He holds degrees in production engineering and philosophy.
Metris International, is currently listed at the Euronext Brussels stock exchange and was awarded the title 'Best enterprise 2006' by Ernst & Young. Before founding Metris, he was an engineering researcher at K.U. Leuven.


ir. Wim Bens

Director of TU/e Innovation Lab

Ir. Wim E.J.M. Bens has been an independent (organisational) advisor since 1996. He was involved in the foundation of Media Plaza and has been the director of business development and knowledge valorisation of the Eindhoven University of Technology since 2003. Currenly, ir. Wim Bens is the director of TU/e Innovation Lab.


Ir. Ernst Treffers

Founder and director of Xpress Precision Engineering B.V.

Ernst Treffers graduated in 1999 from the Willem van Oranje College in Waalwijk. Afterwards, he studied on the National University of Singapore and Eindhoven University of Technology. He is currently the director of business development at Xpress Precision Engineering B.V. As a high-tech startup, the company has been awarded a STW Valorisation Grant, phase 2, and the New Venture award 2007 for high potential start-ups.


Ir. Edwin Bos

Founder and director of Xpress Precision Engineering B.V.

Edwin Bos was born on February the third, 1977 in Valkenswaard, the Netherlands. He attended the Hertog Jan college in Valkenswaard, where he graduated cum laude in 1995. The same year, he started his Mechanical Engineering study at the Eindhoven University of Technology. In 2002 he received his Masters degree with credit. He will finish his Ph.D. on high-accuracy probing systems at the symposium.
