Competence areas

Xpress works with the V-model to provide a structured approach with a strong focus on customer requirements. The metrological design of these systems is the basis of the design process.

This, combined with design principles for precision machine design delivers innovative and ultra precision positioning and measuring systems to our customers.

Metrological design

With metrological design, the metrological concept and the metrology loop, including sensors and reference system, are an integral part in the system design and are the basis of the design process.

Metrological design includes:

System design, with a metrological approach
Ultra precision sensors and metrology, including interferometry
- Metrology loop design
Ultra precision positioning
- Structural loop design
- Actuation and control
Calibration and testing

Design principles for precision machine design

Design principles are based on a fundamental understanding of total machine design, including materials, mechanics, dynamics, thermo-mechanics, control, etc. This combined with an open minded approach to system design results in a "first-time-right" design that lives up to the desired specifications.

Design Principles for precision machine design includes:

Kinematic design for high repeatability
Stiff and lightweight design
Dynamic stability
Thermal stability
Positioning and manipulation
Dealing with friction in the design

V-model and customer focus

The V-model allows for a systematic approach during the design process. Requirements of users and customers are the basis of the design process.

Xpress project flow:

Customer wishes and specifications are translated to a metrological concept during brainstorm sessions (when desired with the customer). The resulting concepts are analysed for their technical and economical feasibility.
A system design is made, based on chosen the metrological concept. Customer and user requirements are translated into specifications for the different sub-systems. Then a design is made of the different sub-systems based on the principles for precision machine design.
An analysis is made of critical components in the systems and, when required, a simple proof-of-principle setup is realized. This allows for improvements to the design to be included before realization and testing of the system, saving time and money.
The design is realized and tested according to customer requirements. The result of this structured and customer-focused approach, the use of design principles and testing of sub-systems results in a "first-time-right" design that lives up to your expectations and may very well surpass them.

Joint metrology product developments

Many manufacturers of measurement equipment look for ways to differentiate their products from their competition. Xpress is open to joint developments based on our specific knowledge of ultra precision dimensional metrology, our core technology or our IP.
